Go to Little Corner House and check it out if you're interested.
Thanks!

The beginning of a new life

The 9.5 months of waiting is over, and the work begins.

Sleep no longer matters.  Eight hours a night?  Bah!  Five-to-six is now enough for me, thankyouverymuch.  Nevermind the headache.  Bring on the coffee and aspirin!

Food is no longer a culinary experience.  Well, not that it was ever a culinary experience...  (I just like food).  Now eating is just for fueling the body.

This new "thing" that just recently came into my life, that lately has been continuously occupying the most of my limited brain space, is:

(wait for it)

(wait for it)

A house!

A new freaking house!  Okay, it's actually 60-years old, but it's new to me!  And it's all mine!  (and husband's).  And it's ugly!  So we may or may not have overpaid but there's no use to crying over spilt milk, I say just grab a straw and drink it straight from the floor!

That said... I'll be taking time off from sewing and blogging in the next few months, to nurture this new source of stress and obsession back into a presentable shape.  I will return with hopefully some decent before-and-after picture, because without before-and-after pictures, we are less equipped to judge people.

P.S. If you're asking why it took 9.5 months, I have one word for you:  Banks.  Evil, incompetent, selfish banks that think they rule the world and expect everybody else to play their games and if they lose, they ask everybody to bail them out.  Okay, that's more than one word, but they do rule the world and got bailed out.

Somebody out there likes me

My blog is featured as a favorite blog on We All Sew!  How cool is that?  Very, I think.

We All Sew is central go-to for all things sewing, my favorite being growing list of links to freebies!  Go check it out!

I'm back!

Sort of. Well, at least I'm very close to being back.

Thesis is approved, one more final exam (going to rely on pity points to pass this one), and come Tuesday night, I am free! Or, actually, I'm already free now since I've checked out mentally. Biggest lesson learned from graduate school: when bored at work, get a hobby, don't go back to school! It's taken me 3 years and countless dollars to realize that. Talk about learning the hard way. This article makes it even more hilarious.

Anyway, during the involuntary sewing hiatus, one of my favorite bloggers, CyberGirly, gave me this nice "Kreative Blogger" award. Big thanks, CG, and right back at ya!

Make like Stephen Colbert...

... and save the planet by jumping on the bandwagon.

Yup, I just jumped on the sewing-blog bandwagon. I have succumbed to peer pressure. Dammit - I thought only teenagers do that! Anyway, I will be posting about my efforts and accomplishments in sewing. Ideas, sketches, to-do's, patterns, fabrics, books, sewing progress or lack thereof and the corresponding frustration, and hopefully some finished projects that are not too embarrassing to share.

The name of the blog came up because I'm loving dresses and want to make many of them. Sure is easier to make than a top and
a skirt! Just add 20+ more inches to a top pattern, sew it up, and it's a whole outfit! Dresses also make one look more put together to compensate for one's face's lack of aesthetics!
Cotton is for the fabric that I currently dare to make something out of. It may be a while before I progress to more expensive fabrics (unless I found a good deal on eBay)!
Little is just because it goes with "dress" and "cotton". My dresses are not so little, but "Big Cotton Dresses" doesn't sound as appealing, so I stick with little.

In any case, I haven't actually made any dresses that I would wear in public. Made a lot of muslins though. For a long time I didn't know that you're supposed to use the muslin to fix all
fitting issues. So I would make a muslin, maybe adjust the obvious flaws at the front because that's all I could see, make the dress, wonder why it looks all funky at the back, and abandon the project. Aaargh!! What a waste of @#$%^& time!

Lesson learned. Read more about fitting and pattern drafting. Resort back to cotton after the stupid wool dress I tried to make had to be rescued by a professional tailor. Go back to square one, and here we are.
